Seoul Lantern Festival 2019

November is the usual time for the annual Lantern Festival in Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon stream. This is so unlike though with the Christmas lanterns in the Philippines. There are barely any blinking display and the lanterns are mostly made for thematic purposes. This time, the general theme are Disney characters and the history of Korea.

The cold autumn air makes it ideal to walk the entire length of the stream that is lined with the lanterns.

The Korean hero that I admire, Gen. Yi Sun Sin with his Turtle battle ship. He repeatedly defeated Japanese naval forces with hundred of boats using only a few ships in his command.

Here’s a short video of the lantern festival.

The lantern festival will end on November 17. So if you are in Seoul before the 17th, free up one night to visit the stream.
